Wrapped emails every digital gift card to its recipient, and you can change the words of each email on Branding › Emails. The look (logo, colours, font, buttons) comes from Branding › Brand, so every email matches. Each email has a subject line, inbox preview text and a body made of text and blocks such as the card details, QR code and wallet buttons.
The customer needs the email to get their gift card code. If you turn off Gift card purchased or Gift card sent as a gift, customers who buy online don't receive their card. Only turn an email off if you give customers the code another way.
The emails
Branding › Emails (open) lists every email and printable PDF, grouped by what they're about. Each has a live thumbnail, a Default or Customised badge, an On/Off switch and Edit.
| Group | When it's sent | |
|---|---|---|
| Gift cards | Gift card purchased | To the buyer with their gift card, when a card is issued to them. |
| Gift cards | Gift card sent as a gift | To the recipient when someone sends them a gift card, with the sender's message. |
| Gift cards | Balance updated | When a gift card's balance changes, for example after a top-up or a manual adjustment. |
| Gift cards | Balance reminder | A nudge to spend a remaining balance, on the schedule you set. |
| Gift cards | Refund to gift card | Listed for refunds issued as a gift card (see the note below). |
| Vouchers | Voucher purchased | To the buyer with a voucher bought from your web store. |
| Vouchers | Voucher sent as a gift | To the recipient of a voucher bought as a gift. |
| Vouchers | Voucher redeemed | Listed as a confirmation that a voucher was used (see the note below). |
| Web store | Web store gift card purchased, Web store gift card sent as a gift, Web store balance updated, Web store balance reminder | The same four gift card emails, for gift cards bought from your web store. |
| PDFs | Gift card PDF, Web store gift card PDF, Voucher PDF | The printable versions customers open from a link in the email. PDFs have no on/off switch. See The printable gift card PDF. |
Wrapped picks the email by the kind of card. A gift card bought from your web store gets the Web store emails, not the Gift cards ones, and a voucher gets the Voucher emails. A gift card created from a refund is currently sent Gift card purchased, and Voucher redeemed isn't currently sent automatically. If an edit doesn't seem to reach customers, see My email template changes aren't showing.
Edit an email
- Go to Branding › Emails and select Edit on the email.
- Change the Subject (up to 200 characters). You can use details like
{{shop_name}}or{{balance}}; they're filled in for each customer. - Optional: change the Preview text, the grey line inboxes show after the subject.
- Edit the body. Click into the text to change it, and use the toolbar to format it (see below). The preview on the right updates as you type and is drawn by the same code that sends the email.
- Optional: under Send a test, enter an email address and select Send test. It sends what's on screen, saved or not, with a sample card.
- Select Save. You see "Email saved."
If you save an email that's identical to the default, it's stored as the default, so it keeps getting Wrapped's improvements. To go back to the default, select Reset to default.
The toolbar
- Undo, Redo, Heading, Subheading, Bold, Italic, Underline, Bullet list, Numbered list, Align left and Centre.
- Link: link the selected text to Your website, Check balance page, Gift it to a friend, Printable PDF, Top up, or Another address… (https://, mailto: or tel:).
- Add block: insert a Divider or one of the blocks below.
- Insert detail: insert a detail that's filled in for each customer, such as Recipient's name, Balance or Code. See Email merge tags.

Some blocks are required on some emails and can't be deleted. For example, gift card emails must keep their card details and wallet buttons, and gifted emails must keep the gift message. If you remove a required block, Save tells you which one to put back.
What you can't change on an email
- Colours, font, logo, corners and button style come from Branding › Brand. See Set up your brand.
- The footer (business name, address, social links, unsubscribe link) comes from your brand's Contact and footer settings. The Unsubscribe link is always included.
- The sender address is set on the Sending email page. See Send gift card emails from your own domain.
Turn an email on or off
On Branding › Emails, use the switch on the email's card. It says On or Off, and saves straight away. Turning an email off stops it for every gift card on your account. To stop emails for just one card, turn off email notifications on that card instead.
Give a web store product its own email
A web store product can have its own words for any of its emails and its PDF, for example to add instructions for an experience.
- Open the product in Web store › Products.
- In the Emails and PDF card, select Customise next to the email.
- Edit it the same way and select Save.
Customers who buy that product get the product's version. On the main email, Branding › Emails shows "1 product has its own version", and the editor warns that your changes won't reach customers who buy that product, with a link to edit the product's version. To go back to the main version, open the product's version and select Remove product version.
Reminder schedules
Balance reminder and Web store balance reminder go out on a schedule you set on Branding › Email settings, under Reminders. Select Edit to set How many reminders, Days without activity between them, and optionally Only remind when the balance is over an amount. Reminders aren't sent for vouchers, or for cards that are expired or not active.
Change the subject for one gift card
When you issue a gift card from the dashboard, the Email card on the issue page has Change subject. That subject is used for that card only. To change the words for every card, edit the email on Branding › Emails.
Campaign, automation and giveaway emails
Each campaign, automation and giveaway has its own email in the same brand design, with wallet buttons. Open the campaign, automation or giveaway and edit its email there. See Marketing campaigns, Marketing automations and Giveaways.
Classic branding
If your account is on the classic branding, Branding › Emails lists Gift card issued, Gift card updated, Gift card gifted and Gift card reminder. Select Preview & edit to open the drag-and-drop editor, where you design the whole email (images, colours and layout) and use Preview, Send test email and Save. Reminder emails also have a Settings button for their schedule. Web store emails are on Web store › Emails. See Web store emails.
Common questions
Where do emails come from?
From "Your business via Wrapped" at no-reply@wrappedgiftcards.com, until you set up your own domain. Replies to that address don't reach you. See Send gift card emails from your own domain.
Do edits change emails that were already sent?
No. Edits apply to emails sent afterwards, usually within a minute of saving. To send a customer the new version, resend the email from the gift card. See Edit recipient details and resend a gift card email.
Can I attach the PDF to the email?
No. The email links to the PDF (the Print it link, or the Printable PDF link option), and the PDF is created when the customer opens it. See The printable gift card PDF.
Can I change the barcode in the email to a 1D barcode?
Not with the new branding: emails show a QR code. See Barcode type on emails and wallet passes.
I saved my changes but customers still get the old email. Why?
The most common reasons are a web store product with its own version, or the card getting a different email from the one you edited. See My email template changes aren't showing.
