A campaign emails every gift card in a batch to its recipient, either straight away or at a time you schedule. It's how you send promotional gift cards to a list of customers, for example a $20 thank-you card to your best customers, a staff reward, or a corporate order. You create the cards first as a batch (usually from a CSV file with each customer's email address and amount), then send them with a campaign in Marketing › Campaigns.
Campaigns are included on the Pro and Plus plans, and on Enterprise accounts with marketing features switched on. On Basic, Marketing › Campaigns shows an upgrade page.
How it works
- Create the gift cards as a batch. When you import the batch, the gift cards are created, synced to your connected sales channels, and counted toward your gift card allowance. No emails are sent yet.
- Create a campaign and choose the batch.
- Design the email and choose Send now or a scheduled time.
- Wrapped emails each card to the email address on it. Cards without an email address are skipped.
Step 1: Prepare your CSV file
Make a spreadsheet with one row per customer. The importer lets you match your columns to Wrapped's as you upload.
| Column | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Code | No | Leave blank and Wrapped generates a code in your code format |
| Balance | Yes | The gift card amount. It can be different for each customer |
| Recipient email | Yes, for a campaign | Where the campaign email goes. Rows without one aren't emailed |
| Recipient name | No | Used in the email if your template includes the name |
| Expiry date | No | For example the end of the promotion |
| Note | No | Internal note on the card |
Step 2: Create the batch
- Go to Gift cards › Batches and select Create gift card batch.
- Choose Import a CSV file and select Next.
- Enter a Batch name, for example "Customer thank-you July 2026".
- Select Upload CSV, upload your file and match the columns.
- Turn on Promotional, so the cards are counted as promotional in reports.
- Leave Never send emails for this batch (under Advanced settings) turned off. If it's on, the campaign can't email these cards.
- Select Create batch.
For more on batches and imports, see Batches: create many gift cards at once.
A batch made with Generate codes has no recipient email addresses, so a campaign has no one to email. Use Import a CSV file for campaigns.
Step 3: Create and send the campaign
- Go to Marketing › Campaigns and select Create campaign.
- Enter a Name for your team.
- Under Gift card batch, choose your batch. Wrapped shows how many cards it has and the total issued.
- Under Email, leave Email each recipient their gift card on.
- Select Design email and write your email. Include the gift card amount, code, expiry date and a link to your store. Use merge tags so each customer sees their own details. See Email merge tags.
- To send later, turn on Send at a set time, then choose Send at and the Time zone. Otherwise the campaign sends as soon as you start it.
- Select Save.
- Under Status, select Send now (or Schedule), then confirm.
When sending starts, the status changes to Sending, then Sent once every card has been processed. A scheduled campaign shows Scheduled and the time it sends.
If you turn off Email each recipient their gift card, the button reads Activate and no emails are sent. The cards still work.
Managing campaigns
On Marketing › Campaigns, each campaign shows its Batch, Redeemed / issued value, number of Recipients, Revenue, created date and Status. Filter by Draft, Scheduled, Sent or Disabled, or search by name. The menu on each row lets you:
- Edit the campaign.
- View Reporting for revenue, orders and credit from the campaign's cards (Owners and Admins; reports refresh about every 2 hours).
- Set back to draft a scheduled campaign. This cancels the scheduled send.
- Activate a draft.
- Clone a campaign, to reuse its batch, email and settings.
- Delete a campaign.
Setting a campaign back to draft, disabling or deleting it doesn't affect gift cards already created or sent.
Common questions
Do campaign gift cards count toward my allowance?
Yes. The cards are created when you import the batch, and each new card counts toward your monthly gift card allowance, whether or not the campaign is sent. See How the monthly gift card allowance works.
Can customers use campaign gift cards in store?
Yes. The cards are created in your connected sales channels like any other Wrapped gift card, so the code works in store and online.
Some customers didn't get the email. Why?
Their card had no email address in the batch, Never send emails for this batch was on, or the email wasn't delivered. See A customer didn't receive their gift card email.
Can I send a test before sending to everyone?
Check the email in the email designer's preview before you send. To see a real email, make a small batch containing only your own email address and send a campaign to it first.
Can I send the same batch again?
Cloning a campaign and sending the clone emails every card in the batch again, so customers get a second email. Only do this if that's what you want.
How is a campaign different from an automation?
A campaign sends cards you've already created to a list, once. An automation creates bonus gift cards or credit on its own when customers buy. See Marketing automations.
How do I see promotional value in reports?
Summary reports don't separate promotional cards from paid cards. The Adjustments report has every adjustment and can be exported. See Promotional gift cards and bonus credit in reports.
