Until you set up your own address, every gift card email comes from "Your business via Wrapped" <no-reply@wrappedgiftcards.com>, and customers' replies don't reach you. Setting up your own address (for example hello@yourshop.com) takes three steps on the Sending email page: enter the address, confirm a code sent to it, and add three DNS records to your domain. After that, emails come from your address, replies go to it, and inbox providers are more likely to deliver them to the inbox.
Before you start
- You need an address at a domain you own, such as hello@yourshop.com. Free addresses like Gmail, Outlook.com, Yahoo or iCloud can't be used, because nobody can add DNS records to those domains.
- You need to be able to read mail sent to that address, to get the verification code.
- You need access to your domain's DNS settings, usually at your domain registrar or website host. If someone else manages your website, you can send them the records.
Set up your address
- Go to Branding › Email settings (open) and select Manage next to Send-from and reply-to address. This opens Sending email. (Settings › Sending takes you to the same Email settings page.)
- Your address: under Send from your own address, enter the Email address you want to send from and select Continue.
- Confirm it's yours: Wrapped emails a code to that address, from "Wrapped Notifications", with the subject "Wrapped - custom email domain verification code". Enter it in Code and select Confirm. If it hasn't arrived, check the spam folder, then use Resend code.
- Add three DNS records: Wrapped shows a table of three records, each with a Host and a Value. Each one is a CNAME record. Add all three where you manage your domain. Use the copy buttons: the host is shown with your domain greyed out after it, and only the part before your domain is copied, which is what most DNS providers want.
- Select Check records. Wrapped looks the records up and shows Found or Not yet for each.
- When all three are found, Wrapped switches your emails to the new address automatically and shows "Done — your emails now come from" your address.
New DNS records often show up within a few hours, but they can take up to 48 hours. If you see "We can't see all three yet", leave the records in place and select Check records again later. Wrapped also checks again each time you open the page.
If a domain is set up but your emails haven't switched to it yet, the page shows the domain is set up with a Send from button for the address. Select it to finish.
What changes once it's set up
| Before | After | |
|---|---|---|
| From | "Your business via Wrapped" <no-reply@wrappedgiftcards.com> | "Your business" <hello@yourshop.com> |
| Replies | Don't reach you | Go to your address |
{{shop_email}} in emails | The email address on your account | Your send-from address |
| Deliverability | Sent on Wrapped's domain | Signed for your own domain, which inbox providers trust more for your customers |
The send-from address and the reply-to address are always the same address. You can't set a separate reply-to.
The name in inboxes is your brand's Email from name, or your business name if that's empty. Select Change name at the top of the Sending email page to edit it. See Set up your brand.
This applies to gift card and voucher emails, and to campaign, automation and giveaway emails. Emails Wrapped sends to you and your team (such as login links and new web store order notices) still come from Wrapped.
Use a different address or domain
- Another address on the same domain: select Use a different address, enter it, and select Continue. A domain that's already set up needs no code or records, so emails switch straight away.
- A new domain: select Use a different address and go through the three steps for the new address.
- Other domains: domains you've started setting up are listed under Other domains, each marked Ready, Waiting for the code or Waiting for DNS records. Use Continue setup or Use to open one, or Delete to remove it. Once deleted, you can't send from addresses at that domain unless you set it up again.
Classic branding
The Sending email page is the same on both brandings. On the classic branding, Branding › Email settings opens it directly, and Change name takes you to your account settings, where the name comes from your business name.
Common questions
Why can't I use my Gmail address?
Setting up an address means adding DNS records to its domain. Nobody but Google can add records to gmail.com, so the setup could never finish. Use an address at your own domain.
I added the records but Wrapped still says "Not yet". What should I check?
- Wait a few hours and select Check records again. Records can take up to 48 hours to appear.
- Check each record is a CNAME record, not TXT or A.
- Check the host. Many DNS providers add your domain automatically, so entering the full host can produce a doubled name like
em123.yourshop.com.yourshop.com. Enter only the part Wrapped copies. - Check you've added all three records, and that the values were pasted exactly.
I see "We couldn't get your records ready." What do I do?
Select Retry setup. If it still fails after a few minutes, contact the Wrapped team. See Getting help from the Wrapped team.
Do I need to change anything in my emails?
No. Emails switch to the new address automatically. The words and design don't change.
Will this fix emails going to spam?
It's the most effective thing you can do, but it isn't a guarantee. See A customer didn't receive their gift card email for other checks.
I didn't get the verification code.
Check the spam folder of that mailbox, then select Resend code. The code is only ever sent to the address you're setting up, so make sure you can receive mail there.
Does this cost extra?
No. Sending from your own domain is included on every plan.
