Web store payments go straight into your own Stripe account. Wrapped never holds your money and doesn't take a commission or per-sale fee. Stripe charges its normal processing fees and pays out to your bank on the payout schedule set in your Stripe account. If you want customers to cover card costs, you can add your own percentage or fixed fee at checkout.
How the money flows
| Step | What happens |
|---|---|
| Customer pays | The charge is made on your Stripe account, in your Wrapped account's currency. Customers pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay through Stripe. |
| Stripe fees | Stripe deducts its processing fee from the payment. Wrapped adds nothing on top. |
| Payout | Stripe pays your balance to your bank on your Stripe payout schedule. Change payout timing in your Stripe dashboard, not in Wrapped. |
| Order in Wrapped | The order shows in Web store › Orders, with the Stripe fee on the order page once Stripe reports it. |
Your Wrapped subscription is billed separately and isn't taken from your web store sales. See Plans and pricing.
Connect Stripe
- Go to Web store › Settings.
- Under Payments, choose:
- Connect my Stripe account to sign in to a Stripe account you already have, or
- Create a Stripe account to open a new one.
- Complete Stripe's screens. Stripe asks for your business details, identity and bank account.
- When Stripe sends you back to Wrapped, the Payments section shows Stripe with a Connected badge and your Stripe account ID.
If you left Stripe before finishing, Payments still says Connect Stripe to start selling and the second button reads Continue Stripe setup. Click it to pick up where you left off. Until Stripe has everything it needs, your store can't take a payment, and the rest of the web store settings stay hidden.
See your payments
- Web store › Settings › Payments › View payments opens your payments in Stripe.
- On any order in Web store › Orders, View in Stripe opens that payment. The Payment card shows the payment status, the amount, the Stripe invoice number and the Stripe fee.
Charge an extra fee at checkout
You can add a card surcharge, service fee or booking fee to every web store order.
- Go to Web store › Settings and find Extra fees under Checkout.
- Click Edit, then tick Charge extra fees.
- Click Add fee. Choose Percent or Amount, give the fee a name (customers see it at checkout, for example "Service fee") and enter the percentage or amount.
- Add more fees if you need them, then save.
How fees are worked out:
- A Percent fee is a percentage of the items in the cart after any coupon discount. It isn't charged on shipping.
- An Amount fee is added once per order, however many items are in it.
- Every fee applies to every order. You can't limit a fee to certain products.
- Fees are added to what the customer pays. They don't change the value loaded onto the gift card: a $100 gift card with a 3% fee costs the customer $103 and is worth $100.
- Fees aren't added to top-ups.
To stop charging fees, open Extra fees, untick Charge extra fees and save.
Disconnect or change your Stripe account
In Web store › Settings › Payments, click Disconnect and confirm. Your store stops taking payments straight away until you connect a Stripe account again. Gift cards and vouchers already sold keep working. Past payments stay in the Stripe account they were made in, so refund those orders from that account.
To switch to a different Stripe account, disconnect, then connect the new one.
Common questions
Does Wrapped take a percentage of my web store sales?
No. There's no commission or transaction fee from Wrapped. You pay your Wrapped plan and Stripe's processing fees. Gift cards sold on the web store count toward your plan's monthly gift card allowance, like cards sold anywhere else. See How the monthly gift card allowance works.
When will I receive the money?
On your Stripe payout schedule. Wrapped doesn't control payout timing. Check or change it in your Stripe dashboard.
Can customers pay the card processing fee?
Yes. Add a percentage or fixed fee under Extra fees, as described above. Check that surcharging is allowed where you trade.
Does the web store add sales tax?
No. Wrapped doesn't add tax to web store orders. The customer pays the item price plus any extra fees and shipping.
Who handles refunds and chargebacks?
You do, in Stripe. Wrapped isn't told about refunds or disputes, so after refunding in Stripe you also need to void or adjust the gift card in Wrapped. See Web store orders: finding, shipping and refunding.
Can I test payments without a real card?
No. There's no test mode for your web store. Make a low-value purchase with a real card, then refund it in Stripe and void the test card in Wrapped.
What currency are customers charged in?
Your Wrapped account's currency. See Account settings: business details, time zone and currency.
