You can issue a voucher to a customer for free from the Wrapped dashboard, for example as guest compensation, a goodwill gesture or a donation. The voucher comes from one of your web store voucher products, uses one of that option's tickets, and is emailed to the customer exactly as if they had bought it. You need a voucher product in Web store › Products and the Owner or Admin role.
There are two ways to do it:
| Method | Use it when |
|---|---|
| Gift cards › All gift cards › Issue gift card | You want to record a reason, set the expiry, add private notes, mark it as promotional, or use the code from a printed voucher. |
| Issue a voucher in the product editor | You just want to send one quickly. It uses a generated code, your default expiry and the reason "Purchased". |
Issue a voucher from Gift cards
- Go to Gift cards › All gift cards and click Issue gift card.
- Code (required) is generated for you. If you're handing over a printed voucher, replace it with the code on the printed voucher.
- Choose a Reason, such as Compensation, Donation or Reward.
- Under Web store product, choose the voucher in Product. Active products show as "Live"; draft products can be issued too.
- Choose the Option (required). Options that are sold out can't be chosen, and hidden options aren't listed. The option's Value is shown for reference; you can't change it here.
- Under Recipient, enter the customer's Email (required). The voucher is emailed to this address.
- Add Private notes if you want to record why it was issued. Only your team can see them.
- Under Expiry, choose No expiry date or Expires on a date. The date starts from your default gift card expiry.
- Under Settings, turn on Promotional so the voucher is counted separately from paid vouchers in reports.
- Click Issue gift card.
The voucher appears in Gift cards › All gift cards and the customer receives the voucher email with its PDF and wallet links.
Issue a voucher from the product editor
- Go to Web store › Products and open the voucher product.
- In the Send and issue card, click Issue a voucher.
- Choose the Option, and enter an optional Recipient name, the Recipient email and an optional Message to show in the email.
- Click Issue voucher. When it's done, click View voucher in the confirmation to open it.
This method records the reason as "Purchased". To record a reason such as compensation, use Issue gift card instead.
What happens when you issue a voucher
- One ticket is taken from the option, the same as a sale. If the option has no tickets left, Wrapped refuses with a message such as "Sat 12 Oct is sold out".
- The customer is emailed straight away.
- The voucher isn't created in your sales channels. It's redeemed through Wrapped, like any voucher. See Redeeming vouchers.
- No payment is taken and no order is created in Web store › Orders.
Common questions
Can I issue a voucher without emailing it?
No. When a web store product is chosen, a recipient email is required. To give a voucher in person, enter your own email address or the customer's, then hand over the printed PDF.
Does a complimentary voucher count toward my monthly allowance?
A voucher that carries a value counts, whether it's sold or given away. Marking it Promotional doesn't change that. See How the monthly gift card allowance works.
Why can't I see my voucher in the Product list?
Deleted products aren't listed. Set the product to Active or Draft in Web store › Products. If the product appears but the Option list is empty, show a hidden option or add one on the product first.
Why did I get "That code is already in use"?
Every code must be unique on your account. Choose another code, or leave the generated one.
Why was issuing refused with "Your account isn't active"?
Vouchers can only be issued while your Wrapped account is active and your gift card program is switched on. Finish the setup checklist on Home.
I want to give a gift card, not a voucher. How?
Use Issue gift card without choosing a web store product, or choose a gift card product. See Issue a gift card from the dashboard.
