Discount coupons for your web store

Create discount codes customers enter at your web store checkout - percentage or amount off, limited to certain products, with a minimum number of items or order value - and what a discount does to the gift card's value.

Updated September 19, 2026

Coupons are discount codes customers type at your web store checkout to take a percentage or an amount off their order. You create them in Web store › Coupons, and they only work once Coupon codes is turned on in Web store › Settings. A coupon lowers what the customer pays; it doesn't lower the value of the gift card they receive.

Coupons only apply to your Wrapped web store. They don't work in Shopify, Lightspeed or your other sales channels.

Turn on coupon codes

    1. Go to Web store › Settings. (Stripe must be connected for this section to appear.)
    2. Under Checkout, turn on Coupon codes.

If coupon codes are off, Web store › Coupons shows a warning that customers can't enter your codes, with a link to turn them on.

Create a coupon

    1. Go to Web store › Coupons and click Create coupon.
    2. Enter the Code customers will type, for example SAVE10. Codes can't contain spaces and aren't case sensitive.
    3. Under Discount, choose Percentage off or Amount off, then enter the Percentage (up to 100) or Amount.
    4. Optionally set Minimum items in the cart and a Minimum order amount.
    5. Under Products (optional), tick the products the code works on. Leave them all unticked for the code to work on every product.
    6. Add an Internal note if you like. Only your team sees it.
    7. Make sure Customers can use this code is ticked, then click Create coupon.

A summary at the bottom of the form shows what the code will do, for example "SAVE10 gives 10% off, for orders of $100.00 or more."

Share the code however you like: email, social media, or a promotional banner on the store itself. See Add a promotional banner to your web store.

How the discount is worked out

CouponDiscount
Percentage off, all productsThat percentage off the items in the cart.
Percentage off, certain productsThat percentage off the ticked products only.
Amount offThat amount off once per order, however many items qualify.
  • The discount comes off the items only, not shipping.
  • Any Extra fees you charge are worked out on the discounted amount.
  • Minimum items in the cart counts every item in the cart. Minimum order is checked against the cart total before the discount.
  • If the customer changes their cart so a coupon's minimum items is no longer met, the coupon is removed.
  • The gift card or voucher keeps its full value. A customer who uses a 20% code on a $100 gift card pays $80 and receives a $100 gift card.

The checkout doesn't stop a customer adding two different codes to one order. Avoid creating codes that would be too generous when combined.

How customers use a coupon

At checkout, the customer clicks Add in the order summary, enters the code and clicks Apply. If the code doesn't apply, they see why, for example that the coupon needs a minimum number of items, a minimum order amount, or a product that isn't in their cart.

The code and the discount are recorded on the order. Open the order in Web store › Orders to see them under Discounts and Totals.

Turn off or delete a coupon

In Web store › Coupons, click on the coupon:

  • Turn off keeps the coupon but stops it working. Turn on brings it back.
  • Delete removes it. Customers can't use the code any more. Orders that already used it aren't affected.

You can also click a coupon to edit it.

Common questions

Can a coupon make an order free?

No. Online checkout takes the rest of the order by card, so it can't complete an order that coupons (and any gift cards the customer uses) bring to zero. Keep your codes below the order value. To give something away, issue it from the dashboard instead. See Issue a complimentary voucher or Issue a gift card from the dashboard.

Can I set a start or end date on a coupon?

No. Turn the coupon on when the promotion starts and Turn off when it ends.

Can I limit how many times a code is used?

No. A coupon works for every customer, as many times as they like, while it's turned on.

Why does a customer get "Invalid promo code"?

Check that Coupon codes is on in Web store › Settings, that the coupon is Active in Web store › Coupons, and that the code has no typing mistakes.

How do discounts show in my reports?

The gift card is recorded at its full value. The discount is on the web store order. See Revenue, voids and discounts in reports.

Should I use a coupon or an automation for a holiday promotion?

A coupon gives money off the purchase price. An automation gives a bonus gift card or bonus credit on top. See Marketing automations.
