Create gift card products for your web store

Create and manage the gift cards customers buy on your web store - prices and gift card values, custom amounts, pictures customers choose from, terms, delivery options, quantity limits, draft previews and the order products appear in.

A product is something customers can buy on your web store. There are two types: a Gift card, which has a balance customers spend over time, and a Voucher, which is used once for an experience, event or offer. This article covers gift card products; for vouchers see Sell vouchers and experiences. You create and edit products in Web store › Products, and a product only appears on your store while its status is Active.

Create a gift card product

    1. Go to Web store › Products and click Create product.
    2. Choose Gift card. The product editor opens with suggested wording and prices filled in.
    3. Enter a Title (required) and a Short description (required).
    4. Under Prices, set what customers can buy (see below).
    5. Under Pictures, click Add and upload at least one picture. Click each picture to give it alt text.
    6. Under Product page, edit the Details and Terms. State your expiry and refund terms clearly.
    7. In the side panel, set Status to Active when you're ready for customers to buy it, then click Save.

Each text field has a Write with AI link that drafts the description, details or terms from your product title and any keywords you give it. Check and edit the result before saving.

Prices and gift card values

Each row under Prices has three parts:

FieldWhat it is
PriceWhat the customer pays.
LabelWhat the customer sees on the button, such as "$50".
Gift card valueThe balance loaded onto the gift card.

The value normally matches the price, but it doesn't have to. For a promotion such as "pay $90, get $100", set Price to 90 and Gift card value to 100. Every price needs an amount and a gift card value above 0, and a label. Click Add price for more rows.

Custom amounts. Customers can also type their own amount unless you tick Only sell these prices. You can set a Lowest amount customers can enter and a Highest amount customers can enter. A custom-amount card's value is the amount the customer pays.

Pictures and card designs

  • The first picture is the main one. Drag pictures to reorder them.
  • Every picture needs alt text before you can save.
  • Pictures show at a 3
landscape ratio, such as 848 × 565 pixels.
  • If a gift card product has more than one picture, customers choose which design appears on their e-gift card.

Product page and search listing

Details and Terms appear under the prices on the product's page. Wrapped also uses the product's terms in voucher and gift card emails and PDFs that include them. Those read the product's terms when they're opened, so editing the terms changes what customers see on cards already sold.

Under Search engine listing, click Edit to change the Page title (up to 70 characters), Description (up to 160 characters) and URL handle (required). The handle is the end of the product's address, for example https://yourbusiness.wrapped.store/gift-card/birthday-gift-card. Handles use lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens, and two active products can't share one.

Delivery and limits

These are in the Delivery and limits card on the right.

OptionWhat it does
Limit how many can be soldStops sales after How many have sold. Tick Show customers how many are left to display the number on the store. Once it's sold out, the product is removed from your store's product list and checkout refuses further purchases.
Offer delivery by postLets customers choose to have a physical card posted. Tick Post only to remove email delivery. See Sell physical gift cards on your web store.
Approve each order before it's sentHolds the gift card until you approve the order. Nothing is emailed until you do. See Web store orders: finding, shipping and refunding.
Hide "send as a gift"Removes the Send as gift button, so customers can't add a recipient.

Status and previewing

StatusMeaning
ActiveOn your store now.
DraftHidden from customers. Use Preview on store to see the product page before you publish it.
DeletedOff your store. Gift cards already sold aren't affected.

Preview on store shows the last saved version. A draft preview link stops working once the product is made active or deleted.

Manage your products

In Web store › Products you can:

  • Filter by Active, Draft or Deleted, search by name, and filter by type or Created since. To find a deleted product, choose Deleted and search by name.
  • Drag the handle on the left to change the order products appear on your store (only when no filters are applied).
  • Use the menu on a row to Edit, Clone (the copy starts as a draft), View gift cards sold from that product, Manage tags, Set as active, Set as draft or Delete.

What customers see

On a gift card product page, customers pick an amount (or enter their own), choose a design if there's more than one, pick a quantity, and then click Send as gift, Add to cart or Buy Now. Send as gift lets them enter the recipient's name and email, a personal message of up to 300 characters, and optionally Schedule for later to have the gift emailed at a date and time they choose. Buying several of the same card as gifts, they can send them to the same recipient or to different recipients.

Common questions

If I change a price, what happens to gift cards already sold?

Nothing. A gift card's value is set when it's bought. Price and value changes only affect new purchases. Changes to Terms do show on emails and PDFs of cards already sold, because those read the current terms.

When is a web store gift card created and synced to my POS?

When the payment succeeds. Wrapped creates the card straight away and adds it to every connected sales channel, even if the customer scheduled the gift email for later. Posted cards are the exception: they're created when paid but only activated and synced when you mark them as shipped.

Do web store gift cards expire?

They use the expiry in your gift card settings, counted from the purchase date. See Gift card expiry.

Can I customise the emails for one product?

Yes. The Emails and PDF card in the product editor lets you give that product its own version. See Web store emails.

Why won't my product save?

The editor highlights what's missing. Common causes: no picture, a picture without alt text, a price row missing its label or gift card value, empty Details or Terms, or a URL handle another active product already uses.

Why isn't my product on the store?

Check that its status is Active, that it hasn't sold out its quantity limit, and that the store itself is switched on in Web store › Settings.
