Connecting Lightspeed Retail X-Series (formerly Vend) takes a few minutes: you sign in to Lightspeed from Wrapped, approve access, then turn the sales channel on. Wrapped uses X-Series' own gift cards, so your staff keep selling and redeeming gift cards on the Sell screen exactly as they do today, and every card stays in step with Wrapped and your other sales channels.
Before you start
- You need to be an Owner or Admin in Wrapped. Other roles can't add sales channels (see Team members and roles).
- Turn on gift cards in X-Series. When gift cards are on, Lightspeed adds a Gift Card product and a gift card payment type to your store. Wrapped reads both. See Lightspeed's guide to setting up gift cards if you haven't done this yet.
- If your gift cards expire, turn on gift card expiry in X-Series too, with the same validity period you use in Wrapped. Cards sold at the register take the expiry date X-Series gives them. See Gift card expiry.
- Sign in to Lightspeed with a user who can approve apps for the store you're connecting.
Connect your store
- In Wrapped, go to Settings › Sales channels (open).
- Select Add sales channel.
- Choose Lightspeed Retail (X-Series). You can type "X-Series" in Search platforms to find it.
- Sign in to Lightspeed and approve access for Wrapped.
- You're returned to Sales channels with the message "Lightspeed Retail (X-Series) connected."
- Turn on the switch next to the new sales channel. Its status changes from Disabled to Enabled.
A new X-Series sales channel starts Disabled. While it's disabled, Wrapped ignores sales from that store and doesn't create gift cards there. Turn it on as soon as you're ready to test.
What Wrapped sets up in Lightspeed
- An order notification (webhook). X-Series tells Wrapped each time a sale is updated, so Wrapped can pick up gift card sales, redemptions and voids.
- Nothing else is created automatically. Wrapped doesn't add products or payment types when you connect. The optional payment types below are added by you.
- Gift cards from your other channels. Once the channel is on, any gift card issued elsewhere (the Wrapped dashboard, your web store, Shopify, batches, automations) is created in X-Series with the same code.
Gift cards that already existed in X-Series before you connected are not imported automatically. Contact the Wrapped team to import your active X-Series gift cards (see Getting help), or import them from a file (see Import existing gift cards from a CSV file). Until a card is in Wrapped, redeeming it at the register doesn't update Wrapped.
Only sales completed after you connect are processed. Earlier sales are never picked up.
Test the connection
- In Wrapped, go to Gift cards › All gift cards and select Issue gift card.
- Enter a small value, keep or type a code, and select Issue gift card. Copy the code.
- Wait a minute while Wrapped creates the card in X-Series.
- In X-Series, open the Sell screen, search for "gift card" and select the Gift Card product.
- Enter the code and select Find Gift Card. You should see the card and the balance you issued.
- Remove the gift card from the sale without completing it.
- Back in Wrapped, open the test card and delete it (Delete gift card). Wrapped sets its balance to $0 in X-Series and removes it from reporting.
If you'd like to test the full loop, sell a low-value gift card at the register, check that it appears in Gift cards › All gift cards within a few minutes, then delete it the same way. See Removing test gift cards before you launch.
Optional: extra payment types for your registers
You can add these as Other payment method payment types in X-Series (Setup › Payment types › Add payment type). Each one needs your sales channel ID from Settings › Sales channels (use the copy button next to ID under the channel name).
| Payment type | What it does | Guide |
|---|---|---|
| Refund to gift card | Puts a return onto a new or existing Wrapped gift card | Refund to a gift card in X-Series |
| Import Shopify gift card | Brings an older Shopify gift card into Wrapped at the register so it can be redeemed | Accept existing Shopify gift cards at the X-Series register |
Outlets and registers
One connection covers your whole X-Series store: every outlet and register under the same Lightspeed store address. You don't connect each outlet separately. Wrapped records which outlet each gift card sale came from.
If you run more than one X-Series store (separate Lightspeed store addresses), connect each one as its own sales channel. If they should run separate gift card programs, see Running several venues, brands or gift card programs.
Common questions
Do I need to create a gift card product in X-Series?
No. Wrapped recognises gift cards from the sale itself: a Gift Card line with a card number, or a payment made with the gift card payment type.
The connection stopped working. How do I reconnect?
Repeat the connection steps above with the same Lightspeed store. Wrapped refreshes the existing sales channel instead of creating a new one, and reinstalls the order notification. You can check the connection at any time with Check orders on the sales channel, which shows a Connection section and a Reinstall webhooks button when something is wrong.
Can I test with a Lightspeed demo or trial store?
Yes. When you're ready to go live, keep the same Wrapped account, disconnect the trial store and connect your live store. See Go-live checklist.
What happens if I turn the sales channel off?
Wrapped stops processing sales from that store and stops syncing balances to it. Gift cards already in X-Series stay there and still work in X-Series. See Sales channel status.
Does connecting X-Series cost extra?
No. All plans include unlimited sales channels. Gift cards sold at the register count toward your monthly gift card allowance like any other gift card. See How the monthly gift card allowance works.
