Customers pay with a Wrapped gift card using Lightspeed's Gift card payment type on the X-Series (formerly Vend) Sell screen. It works the same whether the customer has a physical card, the gift card email (on screen or printed), or a card in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.
Take payment with a gift card
- Add the items to the sale and go to payment as normal.
- Choose the Gift card payment type.
- Scan the barcode or QR code, or type the gift card code, and select Find gift card.
- Check the balance and details shown, then select Pay with gift card.
- Complete the sale as normal.
When the card doesn't cover the whole sale
- After Find gift card, select Make partial payment. The card's balance comes off the amount due.
- Take the rest with another payment type, such as card or cash, or a second gift card.
- Complete the sale.
What's possible at the register, such as splitting across several payment types, is decided by Lightspeed. See Paying with a gift card and another payment method.
What happens after the sale
- The new balance appears in Wrapped, usually within a few minutes, and is then updated in your other channels, such as your online store.
- If the gift card has an email address, the customer gets an email with their updated balance.
- A card saved in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet shows the new balance.
Common questions
The register says the gift card can't be found.
Check the code for typos, or scan it again. A card issued online a moment ago may take a minute to reach X-Series. If it still isn't found, ask a manager to search for the code in Wrapped under Gift cards › All gift cards. See A gift card code isn't accepted at the register or checkout.
The customer doesn't have their code.
X-Series needs the code. A manager can find the customer's gift cards in Wrapped by email address and read out the code. See Find a gift card by code, email or order.
The balance at the register is different from what the customer expects.
The balance in X-Series is the card's balance after all sales Wrapped knows about. If the customer used it online a few minutes ago, the change may still be on its way. If it's still wrong, ask a manager to check the card's timeline in Wrapped (see Reading a gift card's timeline and adjustments).
The customer used the card online at the same moment.
Both redemptions are recorded, so the balance can drop below zero. See What happens if a card is used in two places at the same time.
The customer has an old Shopify gift card.
If your store has set up the Import Shopify gift card payment type, use it first. See Accept existing Shopify gift cards at the X-Series register.
