If you sold Shopify gift cards before you started using Wrapped, those older cards aren't in Wrapped or Lightspeed Retail X-Series (formerly Vend) yet, so the register can't find them. The Import Shopify gift card payment type fixes that one card at a time: staff enter the card's code, Wrapped fetches it from Shopify, and the card can then be redeemed with the normal Gift card payment type.
This is needed because Shopify only shares the last four characters of a gift card's code, so Wrapped can't bring all your old Shopify gift cards in automatically. Once a customer's full code is entered, Wrapped can find the card. See Bring existing Shopify gift cards into Wrapped.
Before you start
- Your Shopify store and your X-Series store must both be connected to Wrapped and turned on.
- Gift cards sold through Wrapped already sync to X-Series. You only need this for Shopify gift cards that existed before you connected Shopify to Wrapped.
Set up the payment type
- In Wrapped, go to Settings › Sales channels (open) and copy the ID of your X-Series sales channel with the copy button next to it.
- In X-Series, go to Setup › Payment types and select Add payment type.
- Choose Other payment method and continue.
- Name it "Import Shopify gift card", or another name staff will recognise.
- In the Gateway URL field, enter
https://manage.wrappedgiftcards.com/pos/vend/import-giftcard/followed by your sales channel ID. - Save the payment type.
Staff steps at the register
- Add the items to the sale and go to payment.
- Choose Import Shopify gift card.
- On Import gift card, scan or type the full gift card code in Gift Card Code and select Search.
- When you see "Gift card exists in Wrapped and is ready to be used in Lightspeed." with the balance, select Close.
- Choose the Gift card payment type, enter the same code and select Find gift card.
- Select Pay with gift card (or Make partial payment) and complete the sale as normal.
The import screen doesn't take any payment. It only makes sure the card exists in Wrapped and X-Series.
Wrapped creates the card in X-Series in the background. If Find gift card doesn't find it straight away, wait a few seconds and try again.
What happens
- Wrapped copies the card's code and current balance from Shopify and creates it in X-Series and your other connected channels.
- From then on, the card is one gift card across Shopify, X-Series and Wrapped. Spending it in store updates the Shopify balance, and spending it online updates X-Series.
- If the code already belongs to a gift card in Wrapped, the screen shows that card instead. Nothing is imported twice.
Common questions
The screen says "Gift card not found".
Check the code was entered in full, with no missing characters. Wrapped only finds active gift cards that exist in Wrapped or in a connected Shopify store. A card that's disabled or has been deleted in Wrapped won't be found.
The balance shown doesn't match what the customer expects.
Wrapped imports the balance Shopify has for the card at that moment. If it looks wrong, check the card in your Shopify admin.
Do we still need this once all our old Shopify cards have been used?
No. Once there are no older Shopify gift cards in circulation, you can delete the payment type in X-Series.
Can customers also check an old Shopify card's balance online?
Yes. Looking a code up on your check balance page also brings the card into Wrapped. See The check balance page.
