Wrapped works with Lightspeed Retail R-Series in two ways. With the web extension (recommended), staff use a Wrapped Gift Cards button in the register and gift cards live in Wrapped. With native gift cards, staff use Lightspeed's own gift card screens and Wrapped keeps a copy of every card in Lightspeed. You connect R-Series the same way for both, then choose the method in the sales channel's settings under How staff use gift cards.
Side-by-side
| Web extension (recommended) | Native Lightspeed gift cards | |
|---|---|---|
| What staff use | A Wrapped Gift Cards button on the register's sale screen that opens Wrapped's gift card screen | Lightspeed's own Gift Card button and Gift Card payment |
| Where the card's balance lives | In Wrapped. The register reads it live | In Wrapped and in Lightspeed. Wrapped pushes every change to Lightspeed |
| Lightspeed API limits | Balance changes don't need to be written to Lightspeed, so busy periods don't queue up | Lightspeed allows only a few gift card updates each minute, so busy periods can delay balances reaching the register |
| Gift card volume | Suited to any volume | Suited to low volume |
| Several Lightspeed accounts on one Wrapped account | Supported | Not recommended: every card and every balance change must be written to each Lightspeed account |
| Bulk imports and batches | Cards are ready at the register as soon as they're in Wrapped | Each card must be created in Lightspeed one by one within the API limits, which can take hours for large batches |
| Marketing features (automations, campaigns, giveaways) | Bonus cards are ready straight away | Every bonus card and top-up must also be written to Lightspeed |
| Look up a customer's cards by email at the register | Yes, optional | No |
| Web store vouchers at the register | Yes, from the same button | No |
| Staff experience | The same Wrapped gift card screen as Lightspeed K-Series and L-Series | Lightspeed's familiar gift card screens |
| Setup | Add a custom menu button in Lightspeed (a few minutes) | Choose the option in Wrapped; check your Lightspeed gift card limits |
Both methods support:
- Physical and emailed gift cards.
- Partial payments.
- Refunds to a gift card.
- Creating a sale in R-Series for gift cards bought on your Wrapped web store.
Which should I choose?
- Choose the web extension if you sell a lot of gift cards, run promotions, import or generate cards in bulk, connect more than one Lightspeed account, or want customer lookup at the register.
- Choose native gift cards if you're a single-location store with low gift card volume and you'd rather staff keep using Lightspeed's own gift card screens.

Both methods start the same way: Settings › Sales channels › Add sales channel › Lightspeed Retail (R-Series), then sign in to Lightspeed and approve access. Then follow the guide for your method:
Common questions
Can I switch methods later?
Yes. How staff use gift cards is a setting on the R-Series sales channel. Talk to the Wrapped team before switching on a live store (see Getting help): gift cards staff have already sold, and cards customers are holding, need to work the new way, and staff need training on the new screens.
I already sell Lightspeed gift cards. What happens to them?
They aren't in Wrapped until they're imported. The Wrapped team can import your active Lightspeed gift cards, or you can import them from a file (see Import existing gift cards from a CSV file). With the web extension, staff must use the Wrapped Gift Cards button for those cards once they're imported.
We use Lightspeed Golf.
