Void or delete a gift card

The difference between voiding and deleting a gift card in Wrapped, what happens in Shopify, Lightspeed and your other sales channels, whether it affects revenue, reports and your plan allowance, which to use for test cards, and whether it can be undone.

Updated September 18, 2026

Void a gift card when a real card should stop working, for example after a refund or if it was lost or stolen: it stays in your gift card list and reports as a voided card. Delete a card that shouldn't exist at all, such as a test card: it's hidden from your gift card list and removed from reporting. Both set the card's balance to $0 in Wrapped and in every connected sales channel, and neither deletes the card inside Shopify, Lightspeed or your other channels.

Void or delete a card

    1. Go to Gift cards › All gift cards, find the card and click Open.
    2. Optionally add a note about why, under Notes › Edit.
    3. Click the (More actions) button at the top right.
    4. Choose Void gift card or Delete gift card.
    5. Click Void gift card or Delete gift card again in the confirmation.

You'll see "Gift card voided." or "Gift card deleted." Read-only users don't see these options.

When you go live, delete your test gift cards so they're kept out of reporting and don't count toward your allowance. See Removing test gift cards before you launch.

What happens in your sales channels

Wrapped sets the card's balance to $0 in every channel the card was created in, and the card's activity shows "Voided gift card with remaining balance … in …" for each one. Wrapped doesn't void, disable or delete the card inside Shopify, Lightspeed or any other channel. The card still exists there with a $0 balance, so a customer who tries to use it has nothing to spend. Leaving the card in place also means it can be given value again later if you need to.

If a channel can't be updated (for example it's disconnected or the card isn't found there), the card shows a sync error. See Fixing gift card sync errors.

The delete confirmation currently says the card "will be deleted in every sales channel". It isn't: its balance is set to $0 in each channel, as described above.

Revenue and reports

Voiding doesn't undo the original sale. The sale stays in your POS or online store, and in Wrapped the card keeps its original value and the revenue from the order it was bought in. The void is recorded as its own adjustment for the balance that was left, so your outstanding liability goes down. Reports catch up within about 2 hours. See Revenue, voids and discounts in reports.

A deleted card is removed from reporting altogether. If you only want to keep a card that's still in use out of your reports, use Hide a gift card from reporting instead.

Voided sales at your POS

When a sale that included a gift card is voided in your POS (for example in Lightspeed), Wrapped automatically adjusts the card to $0 and marks it Disabled. The gift card list still shows the original sale amount as revenue. That's intended. Wrapped doesn't void gift cards or transactions inside Lightspeed, because that can make a gift card unusable in future. See Voiding a gift card sale or return in X-Series.

Deleting a whole batch

To delete every card in a batch, go to Gift cards › Batches, click next to the batch and choose Delete batch. The cards are processed in the background and each is set to $0 in your sales channels. See Batches: create many gift cards at once.

Common questions

Can a void be undone?

There's no undo button, and the confirmation says it can't be undone. If you voided a card by mistake, open it and use Adjust balance to put the value back. Adding value to a voided card makes it active again, logs "Reactivated gift card from Disabled after top-up", and pushes the new balance to your sales channels. The reactivated card counts toward your allowance again in that billing period.

Can I restore a deleted card?

Search for its code in Gift cards › All gift cards, open it and use Adjust balance to add value. If you're restoring many deleted cards, re-importing their codes in a CSV batch with Update the existing card also restores them. See Import existing gift cards from a CSV file.

Does voiding reduce my revenue?

No. The original sale isn't reversed, and the card's original value and revenue stay in the gift card list. Only the remaining balance is voided. To give the customer their money back, refund the payment in the channel where they paid. See Refund a gift card purchase.

Do voided cards count toward my plan?

No. Voided and deleted cards don't count toward your monthly gift card allowance. See How the monthly gift card allowance works.

Should I void or delete a test card?

Delete it. Deleted cards are removed from reporting.

Is the customer told?

Wrapped doesn't email the customer when a card is voided or deleted. Their Apple Wallet or Google Wallet pass updates to show $0.

Can I void a card through the API?

Yes. The Wrapped API (Pro plan and above) can void a card by its code or ID. See The Wrapped API.
