Add a gift card balance checker to your Shopify store

How to put Wrapped's check balance page on your Shopify store, as an embedded page or a menu link, what customers see, and how it also brings older Shopify gift cards into Wrapped when a customer checks one.

Updated September 19, 2026

You can add Wrapped's check balance page to your Shopify store so customers can look up any gift card's balance themselves. Either embed it in a Shopify page with the embed code from Wrapped, or link to it from your store's menu. It shows the balance Wrapped holds, which is the same balance your Shopify checkout and other sales channels use.

Get the embed code

    1. In Wrapped, go to Branding › Designs.
    2. Under Customer pages, open Check balance and select Edit page.
    3. In the Share panel, select Get embed code and copy the code. (To link instead of embedding, copy the page address shown above the buttons.)

While you're there you can change the page's wording, such as the title, button and "code not found" message. Colours and fonts come from your brand. See The check balance page.

Add it to a Shopify page

    1. In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store › Pages and select Add page.
    2. Give the page a title, such as "Gift card balance".
    3. In the content editor, switch to HTML view with the <> (Show HTML) button.
    4. Paste the embed code.
    5. Select Save.
    6. Select View page to check it. Switch the editor back out of HTML view if you want to see the page preview in the admin.

Then add the page to your store's menu so customers can find it: Online Store › Navigation, open the menu (for example your footer menu), add a menu item and choose the page.

If you'd rather not embed the page, add a menu item that links straight to the check balance page address you copied from Wrapped. It opens as a full page in your brand.

What customers see

  1. A box to enter their gift card code, with a scan button for reading the card's barcode or QR code with a camera.
  2. After entering a valid code: the balance and, if the card expires, the expiry date.
  3. If the code doesn't match a gift card: your "code not found" message.

After 5 codes that don't match from the same internet connection, Wrapped stops searching for unknown codes from that connection for 10 minutes. This stops people guessing codes. Codes that are already in Wrapped still show their balance during that time, but older Shopify gift cards (below) can't be looked up until the 10 minutes are up.

Older Shopify gift cards

When a customer enters a code Wrapped doesn't have yet, and you have Shopify connected, Wrapped looks for the code in Shopify. If it's a Shopify gift card (for example one created in the Shopify admin, sold with a Shopify gift card product, or issued by a returns app), Wrapped imports it with its current Shopify balance and syncs it to your other sales channels. From then on it works everywhere.

This makes the balance checker a simple way for customers and staff to bring older Shopify gift cards into Wrapped. See Bring existing Shopify gift cards into Wrapped.

Common questions

Is the balance live?

Yes. It's read from Wrapped when the customer checks. Redemptions on Shopify appear once Wrapped has processed the order, usually within a few minutes.

The page shows "code not found" for a real gift card. Why?

Check the code for typos. If it's a Shopify gift card Wrapped hasn't imported yet, your Shopify sales channel must be enabled for Wrapped to find it, and the customer must not have entered several wrong codes in the last 10 minutes. See A gift card code isn't accepted at the register or checkout.

Can I hide "Powered by Wrapped"?

The page editor has a Show Powered by Wrapped switch under Footer.

Can I use the same page on another website?

Yes. The embed code and link work on any website, not only Shopify.
