When you activate more gift cards in a billing period than your plan includes, each extra card is charged at your plan's overage rate: $0.50 USD on Basic, $0.40 on Pro and $0.20 on Plus. Gift cards keep working when you go over, so nothing is blocked. On monthly plans, the overage for a billing period is charged on your next month's bill.
Overage rates
| Plan | Included gift cards (monthly billing) | Included gift cards (annual billing) | Each extra gift card |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic (shown as Base in the dashboard) | 50 a month | 600 a year | $0.50 USD |
| Pro | 200 a month | 2,400 a year | $0.40 USD |
| Plus | 500 a month | 6,000 a year | $0.20 USD |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | Custom |
The per-card rate is the same on monthly and annual billing.
How the charge is worked out
- Wrapped counts the gift cards activated in your billing period that count toward the allowance. Voided and deleted cards, bonus credit and top-ups of active cards aren't included. See How the monthly gift card allowance works for the full list.
- Your plan's allowance is subtracted from that number.
- Each card left over is charged at your plan's rate.
Wrapped recounts every day during the billing period. A card you void or delete during the period drops out of the count.
Example
You're on monthly Pro and activate 260 gift cards in a billing period:
- 260 − 200 included = 60 extra cards
- 60 × $0.40 = $24 USD, charged on your next month's bill along with your $99 subscription
When overage is billed
- Monthly plans: extra gift cards from one billing period are charged on the next month's bill. They appear as their own line, separate from your subscription fee.
- During your free trial: no overage. Gift cards activated during the trial don't count.
- Annual plans: the allowance covers the whole year. Extra gift cards aren't billed automatically on an annual plan; how they're handled is agreed with the Wrapped team for your account. If you expect to go past your annual allowance, talk to the Wrapped team.
- Billed through Shopify: if Settings › Plan and billing shows Billed through: Your Shopify bill, ask the Wrapped team how extra gift cards are billed for your account.
- Enterprise: as agreed with the Wrapped team.
Before your invoice is issued, you can check the Charges table on Settings › Plan and billing. It lists what's on your next invoice so far, including extra gift cards once you're over your allowance.
Busy months: overage or upgrade?
In a busy month, compare the overage with the cost of a bigger plan. For a month where you activate 600 gift cards on monthly billing:
| Plan | Subscription | Extra cards | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | $49 | 550 × $0.50 = $275 | $324 |
| Pro | $99 | 400 × $0.40 = $160 | $259 |
| Plus | $199 | 100 × $0.20 = $20 | $219 |
These totals assume you're on the plan for the whole billing period. Upgrades part-way through a billing period are prorated.
Ways to keep overage down
- Upgrade before a busy season on a monthly plan, and downgrade afterwards. Upgrade before the busy period starts, not part-way through it. See Upgrading or downgrading your plan.
- Consider annual billing. The whole year's allowance is available up front, which helps if your sales are concentrated in a few months.
- Use bonus credit instead of bonus gift cards for promotions where that suits you. Bonus credit added to the customer's existing card doesn't count. Bonus gift cards do. See Bonus gift card or bonus credit?.
- Void or delete test and mistaken cards promptly. Hiding a card from reporting doesn't stop it counting.
- Import existing gift cards during your free trial, or contact the Wrapped team before a large import after your trial.
Common questions
Will gift cards stop working when I reach my allowance?
No. Gift cards keep being created, redeemed and synced. Extra cards are charged at your plan's rate.
When will I be charged for extra gift cards?
On monthly plans, on your next month's bill.
Why is my invoice higher than my plan price?
It usually includes extra gift cards from the previous billing period, or a prorated charge from a plan change. Open your invoice in the Stripe customer portal (Settings › Plan and billing › Manage) to see each line. See Billing, invoices and failed payments.
I voided a card after it was counted. Will I still be charged?
A card you void or delete during the billing period drops out of that period's count. If the card appeared on an invoice that has already been issued, contact the Wrapped team.
Is overage charged during the free trial?
No. Gift cards activated during the trial don't count toward the allowance.
Can I upgrade for just one month to avoid overage?
Yes, on monthly plans. Upgrade before the busy period starts and downgrade when it's over. When you move back to Basic, Pro features such as automations are turned off. See Upgrading or downgrading your plan.
