If your store already uses the paid WooCommerce Gift Cards extension, Wrapped can work through it: every Wrapped gift card is created as a WooCommerce gift card with the same code, and customers redeem it in WooCommerce's own gift card field at checkout. WooCommerce Gift Cards only accepts codes in the format XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX, so any gift card with a different code can't be created in WooCommerce. For most stores the free Wrapped Gift Card Redemption plugin is simpler (see Connect WooCommerce).
Before you start
- Install and activate WooCommerce Gift Cards from woocommerce.com/products/gift-cards. Keep it up to date. Wrapped uses the gift card features it adds to the WooCommerce API.
- Connect your store and turn the sales channel on (see Connect WooCommerce, step 1).
- Check your code format (below).
Gift card codes must be XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX
WooCommerce Gift Cards codes are 16 letters or numbers in four groups of four, separated by dashes, for example 5QY5-E4AX-TAVR-LCPK. Wrapped's default code format is the same. Check yours in Settings › Gift card rules › Code format (open):

Changing the code format only affects new gift cards. Cards with other codes, such as imported physical cards, stay in Wrapped and work in your other channels, but show a sync error for WooCommerce (see Fixing gift card sync errors).
Set up
- In Wrapped, go to Settings › Sales channels, and on your WooCommerce channel select Settings.
- Under Plugin, select WooCommerce Gift Cards, then select Save.
- Create a gift card product (below).
- Test it (below).
Create a gift card product
You can sell gift cards in either of two ways. Both create a Wrapped gift card that works in all your channels.
Option A: a WooCommerce Gift Cards product
- In WordPress, go to Products › Add New Product and choose Variable product.
- Tick Gift Card.
- Set the tax class to Zero rate.
- On the Attributes tab, add your gift card amounts, then generate the variations.
- Mark every variation Virtual and set its price.
- Publish the product.
WooCommerce Gift Cards generates the code. When the order is paid, Wrapped brings the card into Wrapped with that code, balance, recipient, sender and message.
Option B: a product with the wrapped_giftcard SKU
Create the product described in Connect WooCommerce, step 3. Wrapped generates the code using your code format, then creates the matching gift card in WooCommerce.
What syncs

If a gift card has an expiry date, Wrapped passes it to WooCommerce, unless your gift card rules allow expired cards to be used.
Test it
- In Wrapped, go to Gift cards › All gift cards, select Issue gift card, and issue a small card. Copy its code.
- Wait a minute, then in WordPress go to Marketing › Gift Cards and search for the code. The card should be there with the balance you issued.
- Redeem it on a test order and check the balance goes down in Wrapped once the order is paid.
- Delete the test card in Wrapped (… menu › Delete gift card).
If the card doesn't appear in WooCommerce, open it in Wrapped and look for a sync error. The usual cause is a code that isn't in XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX format.
Common questions
Can I import the WooCommerce gift cards I already have?
Yes. The Wrapped team can import your active WooCommerce Gift Cards with a balance (see Getting help).
Why doesn't a gift card from my POS show in WooCommerce?
Its code probably isn't in XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX format, which WooCommerce Gift Cards requires. Check the card for a sync error. You can still redeem it in your other channels.
Should I switch to the Wrapped redemption plugin?
If you don't need other WooCommerce Gift Cards features, the Wrapped plugin avoids the code format limit and the extension's cost. Change Plugin in the channel's Settings, then install the plugin (see Connect WooCommerce).
